Confessions of a True Crime Junkie

“Perhaps the most pressing problem is the polluted idea of what constitutes a crime and who can be a victim.”

Inspired by MAMA’s previous exhibition POWER OF WHO! and its dialogue on the dynamics of power, MAMA team member and editor Cassandra Langenskiöld examines the ethics of true crime by asking herself the following question: is true crime and the consumption of it morally justifiable? In her exploration, she stumbles across biases in crime coverage, exploitation of victims, seeking out villains, and the underrepresentation of Black and migrant transgender women of color, among other things. Intrigued? Confessions of a True Crime Junkie is available now at MAMA’s Universe. Click here to read the essay.
