MUSIC W/ MARCEL VAN DEN BERG

Marcel van den Berg uses materials in a physical and sometimes aggressive way to make them speak intuitively and associatively. The raw energy that splatters from his works reminds of old-fashioned abstract expressionism, graffiti and street culture. Important influences are American black and Caribbean music from the twentieth century. He often uses lyrics in his work, which he borrows from hip-hop, funk, techno-jazz and reggae – music genres that have given a voice to experiences of social injustice and racism, but of which he also leaves the pride, rhythms and lyrics in his work. resound. During this session, Marcel will mix the sources of inspiration and other relevant songs into a musical response to the exhibition.
