New Friends / MAMA take-over
Opening, 4 – 8 pm: Perfectly copied children’s drawings, humorous and comforting bicycle stickers, socially involved bare buttocks, dark crusades full of hopelessness and violently provocative opera. Five idiosyncratic Rotterdam artists: Tijs van Bakel, Tessa Biemans, Lisa Blaauwbroek, Peter Vianen and Jacco Weener, all with a love for drawing, have been brought together by Chantal van Lieshout to work towards a short exhibition at MAMA’s showroom. Whether it is the similarities or the differences that connect them is examined in the week leading up to the exhibition. The artists will go on a bicycle trip together in the vicinity of Rotterdam. Van Lieshout is to link the works of the artists together with old and new work, basing her artistic ideas on insights gained during this trip. Whether the trip results in deepening friendship bonds or personality clashes between the artists, new friendships are bound to emerge.
