Woonstad commissioned Laurien Dumbar, Thijs Ewalts, Tom Gallant, and Kamiel Verschuren to develop new staircase windows for several apartment blocks in Pendrecht, Rotterdam. The Netherland’s post-war reconstruction architecture promised an orderly world in which everyone would lead similar lives. The new windows represent today’s world: with a dense montage of images, on themes such as housing, symbolism, science, and camouflage, they show a layered collection of lifeworlds existing side by side.
